Connect Google Ads
Before you start
- You need a Google login with access to the ad account – or to the manager account (MCC) that manages it. Agencies connect the MCC once at the organization level and pick client accounts per project.
- Have the 10-digit customer id ready (top right in Google Ads, without dashes). For manager access use the MCC id.
Connect
- Dashboard → project → Settings → Integrations → Google Ads → Connect (or the organization's Integrations page for an organization-level connection).
- Enter the customer id or MCC id. 3x passes it to Composio as the connection's
generic_id– Google requires it for the OAuth grant. - Sign in with Google and allow access. You return to 3x; the connection turns Active within a few seconds.
- Select the ad accounts that belong to this project. Currency and time zone are read from the account. A 90-day backfill starts in 30-day chunks.
What is imported
| Data | Source | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Campaigns, ad groups, ads | GAQL entity queries | names, status, final URL suffix and tracking templates (for URL-tag matching) |
| Daily metrics | campaign and ad reports | cost (cost_micros ÷ 10⁶), impressions, clicks, conversions, conversion value |
| Click view | click_view per day | gclid → campaign, ad group, ad and keyword; enables exact matches |
Spend totals use campaign rows: Performance Max and some other campaign types have no ad-level rows, so summing ads would undercount. When you drill below campaign level, the difference shows as an unattributed to ads row.
The click view is only available for the last 90 days and one day per query; 3x imports yesterday
(and the day before, for late data) every day. Sessions with a gclid that appears there are matched
to the exact ad and keyword. gbraid/wbraid (iOS) cannot be resolved to an ad and match at
platform level.
Recommended URL settings
Add the UTM template as Final URL suffix at account level
(Admin → Account settings → Tracking). Keep auto-tagging on – the gclid is what makes
click-level matches and Google conversion uploads possible.
Manager accounts and conversion uploads
When access goes through an MCC, uploads and proxy queries send the manager id as
login-customer-id. If you also upload conversions to Google Ads, set loginCustomerId on the
Google Ads destination (Google Ads conversions).
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Account list empty after connecting | login has no access to that customer id, or the MCC id was entered for a non-manager login | reconnect with the right id |
USER_PERMISSION_DENIED in the sync log | client account accessed without the manager id | reconnect with the MCC id |
| Spend in 3x lower than in Google Ads | range ends today; Google restates the last days | wait for the daily restatement (D-1…D-7) or run a sync |
| Many Google sessions unmatched | final URL suffix missing, or auto-tagging off | see Matching |
